Adam's StoryRace, Gender and Family
“The question came up from my Dad, my grandparents, "Does this mean you want to be a woman now?"
In this video, Adam talks about his family and the influence that their Asian immigrant culture has on the way they view his gender. After coming out as gay, the family began also questioning Adam’s gender. When he was noticed and appreciated for taking on tasks in the family that are sometimes considered female roles, Adam’s view of his own gender began to evolve.
“People in my family, elders in my family began addressing me with female titles and I kind of embraced it…my family does it quite respectfully.”
